From the American People: For Lebanon’s Progress! PDF Print E-mail
Mariam Itani – Al-Jazeera Talk - Beirut
Exactly, this is what this big sign on Mudeirij Bridge says. This bridge that is the highest bridge in the Middle East –actually was, when it was a bridge – and whose construction took much time and budget form the Lebanese people, was bombed last summer during the Israeli attack on Lebanon.
It was bombed with the help of the American’s unconditional support for Israel, for Israel’s war, and continuous military support, and most probably with an American-made bomb and plane.
Yes indeed … “From the American People: For Lebanon’s Progress”

I know that the argument will be: “but the American people are innocent from all the Bush administration acts”, well then why don’t they speak this out? Why don’t they react, boycott, help? Building what is destroyed sometimes helps, but there are things that can never be restored, things more than bridges; things such as lives of those dear, such as hands, eyes, legs, sons, daughters, parents; things such as small souvenirs that we keep in our homes, like nice memories of the places we lived in and bridges we passed on; things that can never be restored, and terrific moments that can never be forgotten, when bombs of hatred fall on our roads, when bombs’ fire lights the whole Bekaa valley, and my little small country shakes by the “huge” destroying shelling sound, and this is all as well, from the Americans, “For Lebanon’s Progress”!
We’re thankful indeed, for EVERYTHING!
