The Birth of a Man, the Birth of a Nation! PDF Print E-mail
Mohammed Hashas - AlJazeeraTalk - Oujda, Morocco
Any true student or researcher in history would not deny the fact that the birth of Muhammad PBUH  (born 570 – died 632) marked a turning point in human history. With him humanity has come to know a new religion, Islam, and to see the growth of a new nation, a new civilization, and a new phase in human history. Like more than a billion of Muslims worldwide I would like to say few words about this day, taking it for granted that my words are very sketchy and known by any wise man, be him a Muslim or simply a human being. Admittedly, whatever I say here is not enough. I opt for raising questions more than for providing answers.
What I should stress here is that Muhammad PBUH is not like every enemy of Islam thinks of him, as the repeated caricatures describe him in Denmark. What these caricatures demonstrate is that the caricaturists – who are after fame and money- and those who applaud them know nothing about a religion and a civilization that have existed for 15 centuries now. This means that the billions of Muslims that are on every spot on this earth have been invisible to these Westerners (with my respect to the good share of them) for 15 centuries. I do not think that these caricatures have weakened the faith of Muslims in their prophet and religion. On the contrary, they have strengthened it and have become more aware of the fact that ignorance is still rampant in the West. More than that, we have heard of many Europeans who have converted to Islam. Caricatures are weapons that have turned against their users!
Islam and the Muslims do believe in Christianity and Judaism and respect the other doctrines. Muslims revere the previous prophets, peace be upon them all, but the Judaeo-Christian Europe seems to have forgotten that, Europe which calls for democracy, freedom of expression, and human rights! This is in brief how the Other sees Us and celebrates the birth of our prophet Muhammad PBUH, but what about Us and how do we celebrate it? It is a point of more interest to me.
It is very nice to receive phone calls or messages in your mobile or email from family and friends to wish you a delightful and blessed day and life in general. It is also very nice to see people absorbed in supplications and prayers. But that is not the entire story. If we criticize the Other for being crude to our prophet, we should confess that we also do him some harm. How? Can we answer these questions: How many of us know the prophet’s biography and how many of us read السيرة  and تاريخ الحضارة الإسلامية ? How many books do we have in our libraries at home about the many fields of studies we know? How many do we have about our identity in comparison? Let us go count and we will find that it is shameful the result.
Identity construction starts at home. Identity destruction also starts at home. Our crisis starts at home. Our revival also starts at home. Let us look indoors before we see what is the problem outdoors. Our Birth started with the birth of the prophet PBUH, and our re-birth behoves our return to his teachings.

Freedom of expression or freedom of aggression?
written by Jalal KARIM, March 29, 2008
Under the pretext of freedom of expression God's Messenger is carricatured. If Europe really sanctifies that right " freedom of speech" why was the British historian David Irving jailed beacause he uttered some words about the Holocaust? and why, just recently, a French administrator sacked because he criticized genocides of Israel against civil palestenians? I think that it is all about lack of respect and lack of understanding of the faith of the Other on the part of Europe. Europe still sees itself as superior, and has the right to belittle what is non-European especially Eastern. Thus, it allows its media the right of aggression against an old enemy, with which the account is still open. This enemy is unquesionably Islam.

the Great man for ever
written by kohkoh mohamed, March 29, 2008
to talk about the Savior of humainty, Muhammed peace be upon him, we shed light on him from many different perspectives.in (the bible) the last prophet Muhammed is mentioned in different verses.look at Deuteronomy 18:18, Moses talks about the promised prophet whome God will put the sacred words, the Quran in his mouth because of Muhammed's illitracy.... Jesus tald his his people that he has much to say but he added he would let the opportunity to Muhammed who will finnish the message.Thesa show that non-muslims must go back th their history and wise men to expect the reality about Islam in general. The history of Muhammed manifests itself and chows how he dealt with peace with any body. There are much to say about him.in fact dear Hashas this is the issue that i wanted to send if you remember when i talked to you .that's great

Thanks Hashas
written by Abdelkader Taybi, March 30, 2008
Thanks MR Hashas for raising such an interesting but unfortunately rarly touched upon issue. You sketchely pointed to every pertinent element. you talked about everything in a very beautiful way. To add to what you said, I'd like to say the following: "Mohammed (PBUH) was nothing more or less than a human being' to begin with. But he was a man with a mission, that was to unite people on the worship of One and Only One God." He is not as he is represented by the caricaturists and others. On the opposit, Mohammed PBUH is a different man, who can be understood only by those who love him. and I do contend that the westerners, I mean here non-Muslims, know nothing about this prophet. Subsequently, this misrepresentation of this noble man is due to a misunderstanding of what his true character is. I do agree with you when you say Muslims have been invisible to the Westerners for 15 centries, because if we are to speak about Muslims we have to mention their duties towards their religion, the first of which is to clear out or to prevent such misinterpretations and misrepresentations of Mohammed PBUH and Islam in a general view. Finally, I'd like to correct a misgiven idea that was delivered by somebody in his comment on the article in which he says that "non-muslims must go back to their history and wise men to expect the reality about Islam in general". And I do wonder who are those wise men he is referring to? Are they really wise? (not wise anough I believe!!) I don't think so, otherwise they would have at least exempted Mohammed PBUH from their representations. To my mind, I think they rather should read about Mohammed (PBUH) himself. Finally, I'd like to close this presentation by quoting MAHATMA GANDHI, speaking on the character of Muhammed, (PBUH)
"I wanted to know the best of one who holds today's undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind....I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to this friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the 2nd volume (of the Prophet's biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life."

Muhammad
written by Nasamat, April 05, 2008
What can I say on your day
When every day is your day ?
O Muhammad ! O Taha ! O shafi’na on the Last Day !
From the day you stood to say :
O Man ! I’m but a man
Sent to save you, sent to tell you
The way that’ll lead you away
From the one who led you astray
To the One Who made you ’n the best way
And gave you beauty and bounty in every way
And will yet give you joy where you’ll stay
For ever and ever, as you say !
From that day,
O Muhammad ! O Taha ! O shafi’na on the Last Day !
Men came to you on foot and horseback ;
They said as you said
And prayed as you prayed
And when attacked, they fought back.
You lived in a shack
While your beauty was brighter than the moon ;
You ate with your hands
While one with your beauty would use a gold spoon ;
You sat on the sands
While one with your glory
Would build himself storey upon storey :
And that’s why your story
Has gone as far as Brunei and Zinjibar
And London and New York
Where people eat with a knife and fork,
They too say as you said
And pray as you prayed
And when wrongly questioned, they answer back.
O Muhammad ! O Taha ! O shafi’na on the Last Day !
What can I say on your day
When every day is your day ?
From just a few those who came to you
Filled every hill, swamped every dale,
They made Time stand still till their tale
Made the mightiest kingdoms frail
And brought the Muslim flag as close as Prague !
The Arabian Nights tells of made-up knights
And of Harun al-Rasheed
Whose life the Truth of your Message
Made eed upon eed !
And yet someone came to draw
A pic of a man whose peer he never saw,
And papers and commentators
Seeking cheap money and fake glory
Made every story
Out of the Story of the man whose glory
Defies all Posts and all Tribunes and all Times !
O Muhammad ! O Taha ! O shafi’na on the Last Day !
What can I say on your day
When every day is your day ?
When your name has brought fame
To a Dane who became insane ?
What can I say on your day
When night and day
Souls repeat your words
As if they were songs of jungle birds !
Peace be upon you and all those who followed your way !
O Muhammad ! O Taha ! O shafi’na on the Last Day !

Thanks Mohamed for this. We do indeed defend our prophet aggressively without knowing what he went through. I am sure that 70% or even more dont know the Sirah or even the major battles and events.
It's a disaster and to be honest, parents and schools play a huge role in ignoring the religious sides of the kids. let's hope we'll bring up our children differently, InshAllah.

For me..
written by KMG, May 14, 2008
For me, I don't think that those caricatures are drawn because he didn't know Islam well. Obviously, the west has launched a war on Islam by that caricatures. Although Muslims are weak nowadays and the west world are stronger than us, they will lose the war by Allah, not by us!

Prophet Muhammad (Sallullahi Alayhi Wassalam)
written by Haroon Mohamoud, July 21, 2008
Amazing insight into the Prophet Muhammad (sallullahi alayhi wassalam), his life and legacy.

He was a man who led and inspired some many nations, people and tribes to bring them all under one umbrella: ISLAM.

Peace
